What it does

A split edit is what makes a cut feel professional: the sound of the next shot arrives before its picture (J-cut), or the previous shot's audio carries over the new picture (L-cut). Building them by hand means unlinking, nudging, relinking — and hoping nothing slipped a frame. PrimCut does the whole move in one click: park the playhead on a cut, set the overlap in frames (1–30), press J or L.

Doing a whole interview? Select the clips and batch every junction at once, with a real progress bar and a Cancel button. Placement is frame-accurate, picture and sound stay linked, and by default PrimCut duplicates your sequence first so the original is always intact. No exports, no internet — it works directly with Premiere.

Key features

How to use it

Park the playhead on a cut

Anywhere two clips meet — that junction is what gets the split edit.

Set the overlap

Choose how many frames the audio should lead or trail — 12 is a natural starting point.

Press J-Cut or L-Cut

The offset is built instantly, with audio and video still linked.

Or batch it

Select multiple clips and apply to every junction at once — progress bar and Cancel included.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a J-cut and an L-cut?

In a J-cut the incoming shot's audio starts before its picture appears; in an L-cut the outgoing shot's audio continues over the new picture. Both smooth the edit so cuts stop feeling abrupt.

Will my clips go out of sync?

No. Placement is frame-accurate and picture and sound come out linked, so later edits move them together.

Can I do a whole interview at once?

Yes — select the clips and batch mode applies the split edit to every junction, with a progress bar and Cancel if you change your mind.

What if I don't like the result?

PrimCut duplicates your sequence before applying by default, so the untouched original is right there in your project.
